TwellowHood: Australia
First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Chad, and I work as support for Twellow. For the majority of my life, I lived in and grew up in Australia. With this premise, ever since TwellowHood was first launched, it has been my goal to see a region added for Australia.
Lead programmer/developer Matthew Daines and I have been working diligently to make an Australian-dedicated feature possible so that Aussies can find other Twitter users with common interests, based on their geographic location. With this said, on behalf of Twellow, I would like to present TwellowHood: Australia to you.
This new service includes the following Australian states and territories:
- Australian Capital Territory
- New South Wales
- Northern Territory
- Queensland
- South Australia
- Tasmania
- Victoria
- Western Australia
We hope that you enjoy this new feature, and also hope that this helps you find other fellow Aussies that matter on Twitter.

Hey folks, I am not Australian but I thought I’d take this opportunity to thank you for the awesomeness that is Twellow. It’s a really essential service. Hope your index can keep growing, though. Last night I was making a list of folks in the Augmented Reality sector and found a couple in Tweepz.com that weren’t here. None the less – love ya!

Typical Americans. Your knowledge of geography outside USA is pretty non existant. New Zealand is not part of Australia i.e. shouldn’t highlight on your map and neither should Papua New Guinea.

Simon,
The reason New Zealand and Papua New Guinea are highlighted in the map software along with Australia is that the map is designed to highlight entire continents at the world level. You will also notice our apparent lack of North American geographic knowledge, as we have included Greenland, Mexico, and the whole of Central America and the Caribbean Islands in highlighting North America, even though we currently only have actual data for Canada and the United States.
Our team members are quite aware that Australia is a sovereign country, distinct and separate from New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. With Chad Sweely (our team member responsible for gathering the geographic data for Australia and publishing this post) having lived in Australia for fifteen years, and I myself having lived in Botswana and South Africa for two years, our team of “typical Americans” are quite well versed in the geography of the Southern Hemisphere.
Best Regards,
Matthew Daines
